Kenya, 6 October 2026 - Seven people charged over the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso among them police Collins Bett who had fled to Uganda on Tuesday applied to be released on bond.
Apart from Bett, others charged are Rose Mbithe Mulwa alias Rose Mbijiwe, her two children Angela Mulwa and Chris Mulwa (both lawyers), Police Constable Elijah Kimoi, Kimutai Maritim and Pius Mbugua.
They have denied killing Dr Mutiso on 29 July 2026.
The seven form part of 10 suspects arrested by detectives over the murder of Dr Mutiso.
Three suspects are still being grilled.
When PC Bett and Muiru appeared before Justice Muteti on 30 September 2026, they did not plead to the charge on that day and were ordered to undergo mental assessment to establish whether they are fit to stand trial.
The judge ordered the duo to be produced in court on 6 October 2026 (today). They joined Rose and the other suspects as they were produced for bail application.
Last week, PC Bett and Muiru were remanded at the Industrial Area Prison and from there, they were escorted for psychiatric examination at a government hospital.
When Rose and her children were charged they applied to be released on bond claiming they were tortured during grilling.

Justice Muteti heard from prosecuting counsel Jalson Makori teaming up with Ms Gikui Gichuhi, the accused wrote to President William Ruto complaining against the police and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) claiming that they were discriminated against.
Mr Makori who did not avail a copy of the letter to the court, said the DPP Renson Ingonga who was mentioned as people on the wrong alongside the police, had received the letter and would respond.
Rose in the letter claimed that while she together with her two children were detained for 60 days, other suspects were in custody for a shorter period.
The damning letter was copied to Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Security Kipchumba Murkomen, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Douglas Kanja, the Director Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin, the Attorney General and the director Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) among other high ranking government officials.
“In the letter to the Head of State, the accused claimed they were tortured and discriminated against by the police during their 60 days in custody,” Mr Makori had told the court.
Rose was ex co-wife to the late Dr Mutiso and they were married to Dr David Ndetei. Dr Ndetei is currently on the wheelchair and Rose claimed that she left her marriage which was allegedly abusive.
She claimed that the battle over an estate worth KSh 1.5 billion is the reason she is targetted and that she has nothing to do with the murder of Dr Mutiso. She added that she is the one who educated her former husband when he was a second year medical student upto the PhD level.
She also revealed that Dr Mutiso was there office assistant before she became the co-wife.
