Kenya, 13 October 2025 –Kenya’s President William Ruto has come under criticism for allegedly sidelining the Vision 2030 development blueprint following the announcement of a new long-term plan aimed at transforming Kenya into a first-world nation within the next 30 years.
President Ruto unveiled the plan on Sunday during celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the Africa Inland Church (AIC) Ziwani in Nairobi County. He stated that his administration is laying a foundation to make Kenyans “first-world citizens” within the next three decades.
He, however, did not provide specific details of the plan or explain how it would differ from the country’s official development strategy, Vision 20230.
The remarks have angered sections of the opposition, who now accuse the President of engaging in “2027 politics” at the expense of Kenyans. Former Nyali MP Hezron Awiti Bollo questioned the President’s motives, suggesting that the new agenda is politically driven.
“When I hear Kenya Kwanza talk about transforming this country in the next 30 years, I see the politics of 2027, promises of hope without tangible action,” Awiti said.
Speaking on one of the major TV stations in the country, Awiti further argued that previous administrations had already established long-term frameworks such as Vision 2030, launched under former President Mwai Kibaki, which focused on economic recovery, wealth creation, and employment opportunities. He cautioned that abandoning such structured blueprints could derail the nation’s progress.
He also accused the current administration of fostering a “state capture” environment where government influence dominates public institutions, warning that such trends could hinder economic growth and transparency.
