Kenya, October 09, 2026 - President William Ruto has vowed to fully protect Kenya’s fish landing sites from land grabbing and confirmed that five large boats have already been purchased for distribution between Lake Victoria and the Coast.
Responding to fishermen’s questions at the Agriculture & Food Systems Transformation Summit at Jamhuri Park, Nairobi, the President announced that all 42 fish landing sites along the coastline have been gazetted. He said the move permanently secures the sites after some had been irregularly acquired.
Ruto specifically directed that a fish landing site be constructed at Amburi and confirmed that preparations are already underway. He added that the five large boats will support fishermen who have long depended on smaller vessels that are easily overwhelmed at sea. Additional boats for patrols have already been delivered to Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori counties.
The President further revealed that a KSh600 million marine centre of excellence is under development to create a detailed curriculum on the blue economy and fishing. The government, he said, is also working to lower the cost of fingerlings and feeds once ongoing research and production projects are completed.

Ruto described the measures as critical to unlocking the potential of Kenya’s blue economy and improving the livelihoods of fishing communities across the country.
