Doha(Mogadishu24)-The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre on Tuesday held an official meeting with the Prime Minister of Qatar Mohamed Bin Abdirahman Al-Thani.
The two Prime Ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries in the a wife range of areas including security, and socio-economic development.
“The two Prime Ministers discussed strengthening of relations between the two countries and cooperation in the fields of security, elimination of Al-Shabaab, economic development and social issues, while reaching agreements on all the areas,” a statement from the Somali Prime Minister’s office read.
The Qatari Prime Minister Mohamed Bin Abdirahman Al-Thani said on his official X account that the government of Qatar is committed to support Somalia in its efforts to achieve stability and prosperity for the brotherly Somali people.
He reiterated Qatar's permanent support for Somalia as well as its support for state institutions and all efforts aimed at achieving security and stability and ensuring the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the country.
“During my meeting with HE Hamza Abdi Barre Prime Minister of Somalia, we discussed Somalia’s developments and ways to enhance cooperation at all levels especially in development projects. Qatar supports all efforts to achieve stability and prosperity for the brotherly Somali people,”
The Prime Minister of Somalia, who will be in Qatar for 3 days will hold meetings with other officials and businessmen to discuss investment opportunities in Somalia, and sign several agreements between the two countries.
In May this year, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, visited the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to discuss and foster the relationship between the two countries.
The government of Qatar successfully mediated the restoration of relations between Somalia and Kenya in May 2021, which had been strained at that time.
The government of Qatar plays a major role in the reconstruction of the government of Somalia, particularly in economic infrastructure development, security, and humanitarian issues.
The Prime Minister’s delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abshir Omar Jama Huruuse, Minister of Finance Bihi Iman Egeh, Minister of Internal Security Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Doodishe, Minister of Education, Heritage, and Higher Education Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, and other officials.
