DOHA, 27 September 2026 Qatar on Sunday condemned military escalation against Ethiopian federal forces and called for an immediate end to hostilities, saying the tensions threatened Ethiopia's unity and stability across the Horn of Africa.
In a statement, Qatar's foreign ministry urged protection of civilians and adherence to the Pretoria peace agreement signed in 2022 by Ethiopia's federal government and the Tigray People's Liberation Front to end their two-year war. Doha said it supported efforts to resolve disputes through dialogue.

The statement comes amid renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia. Seven armed groups, including the TPLF, announced an alliance against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government on September 21, accusing the government of centralizing power and marginalizing Ethiopia's regions.
The United Arab Emirates issued a separate statement on Friday that explicitly blamed the TPLF for attacks on federal forces and condemned the seizure of airports in Tigray. Qatar's statement did not identify the group responsible for the escalation it condemned.
