GAROWE, PUNTLAND — The Information Office for Puntland’s Counter-Terrorism Operations has issued a strong warning to pastoralist communities residing in the Cal Miskaad mountain range, urging them to vacate areas near active military operations targeting ISIS militants.
Civilians Advised to Leave Within 24 Hours
In a statement released on April 11, the office emphasized that civilians, particularly nomadic communities, must leave the operation zone within 24 hours. The warning comes as the Puntland Security Forces, with aerial and ground support, prepare for intensified strikes against ISIS strongholds in the region.
“Residents must evacuate the area where operations are taking place within 24 hours,” the office said in an official communiqué. Authorities also expressed concern that fleeing ISIS fighters may attempt to blend in with local civilians, posing additional risks to public safety.
