Somalia, July 21, 2026 — Puntland Security Forces said they carried out a planned security operation in the Laag area on Tuesday and dismantled an armed group accused of causing insecurity and disruption in the area in recent months.
According to a report broadcast by Puntland Television, the operation resulted in the seizure of military vehicles, weapons and arrests of individuals.
Puntland also said operations are ongoing to track down members of the group who fled the area.

The administration has not identified the group it accused of posing a threat to its security, nor has it disclosed where the group is based.
The Somali government recently said that federal forces under the command of the Somali National Army are present in Puntland. In response Puntland said that federal forces cannot operate in its territory without its approval.
The development comes amid growing political tensions between Puntland and the federal government, with relations between the two sides deteriorating. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on July 1 that relations between the federal government and Puntland had broken down.
