Somalia, 25 April 2026 Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni held talks on Somalia's political transition, amid what his administration called uncertainty, presidency said.
The meeting, held in Garowe on Friday, brought together politicians, elders, religious leaders, women, youth and members of parliament, according to a statement from the presidency.
The statement said discussions focused on the situation following the expiry of Somalia’s federal parliament’s term on April 14, with no agreement yet reached on how to manage the next phase.

Participants also discussed Puntland’s role in addressing the political situation and efforts to reach a consensus-based electoral process.
The presidency said concerns were raised over the absence of a political agreement to guide the transition.
Puntland is a federal member state of Somalia and has at times been at odds with the current federal leadership, particularly over electoral arrangements and governance structures, as it has stated on several occasions.
