Somalia, 31 May 2026 – Students sitting for Puntland’s certificate exams rose by 6.1% this academic year to 25,221 candidates, the Puntland Education Ministry said on Saturday.
The ministry said 16,068 grade 8 students and 9,153 grade 12 students sat for the 2025–2026 certificate exams.
The exams were conducted in 161 centres, including 98 centres for grade 8 and 63 centres for grade 12, according to the ministry.

Last year, 23,768 students sat for the certificate exams at both levels, meaning this year’s total increased by 1,453 candidates.
The number of grade 8 candidates rose from 15,355 in the 2024–2025 academic year to 16,068 this year. Grade 12 candidates also increased from 8,413 to 9,153.
The increase reflects wider participation in Puntland’s formal exam system, especially at key transition stages from middle to secondary school and secondary to higher education.
