GAROWE, Somalia, 5 October 2026 Puntland and Indonesia have discussed maritime security and anti-piracy efforts during a meeting in Garowe between Puntland’s acting president and Indonesia’s ambassador to Somalia.
Acting President and Vice President Ilyas Osman Lugatoor received Indonesian Ambassador to Somalia Witjaksono Adji on Sunday, the Puntland presidency said in a statement.
The talks focused on strengthening cooperation, including efforts to combat piracy and improve maritime security, according to the statement.
Indonesia congratulated Puntland on its operations against piracy and thanked Puntland for rescuing Indonesian citizens and for the treatment they received after being rescued, the statement said.

Indonesia’s national news agency ANTARA previously reported, citing Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry, that four Indonesian citizens were among the crew of the hijacked MT Honour 25. The ministry said on April 30 that the four were safe as efforts to secure the release of the vessel continued.
Lugatoor said Puntland remained committed to combating piracy, protecting its maritime security and fighting terrorism, according to the presidency.
The meeting came days after a series of anti-piracy operations. Puntland forces said on September 25 that they had rescued the MT Sibu 1, which had been hijacked in August.
On September 29, Puntland forces also rescued the MT Honour 25 and MT Eureka, according to Puntland authorities. Reuters reported that five crew members of the MT Honour 25 were killed before the vessel was retaken, while Puntland authorities said 16 suspected pirates were captured.
