Somalia; 17 September 2025 – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has instructed the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation to address deteriorating conditions at Aden Adde International Airport within two weeks, following increased public complaints.
During his visit to the airport on Tuesday, Prime Minister Barre cited several issues, including non-functioning baggage handling systems, broken water systems in restrooms, and widespread sanitation problems.
“The situation is even worse than reported,” said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Barre ordered the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Farah Nuh, to resolve the issues within two weeks, emphasizing the importance of improving conditions at the airport.
“We demand that the machines be replaced and function properly. Those responsible must ensure the machines operate correctly within two weeks,” said Prime Minister Barre.
The Prime Minister also stated that airport staff need hygiene training and proper equipment to ensure the airport becomes clean and functional.
