Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, on Saturday expressed grave concerns about the safety and security situation in Mogadishu following the killing of a former member of the Federal Parliament, Ibrahim Salah Deyfullah, by Al-Shabaab yesterday.
Speaking at an event on the security progress in the capital organized by the local municipality, the Prime Minister called on the security forces to bring the criminals to book.
“We are living in a community where narratives circulate about someone being killed and the killer escaping. We have not yet ensured the security of the perpetrators behind the killing of Ibrahim Deyfulah. If we are in such a situation, we have not made progress in our security,” said PM Hamza.
He announced that the roadblocks in the city would be removed due to public outcry, stating that the roadblocks are a threat to the security of the general public.
“As agreed before, we will remove the roadblocks within the city. We will partially remove the roadblocks in areas where security has been restored and where the roadblocks become a threat to the security of the residents,” he added.
He addressed the challenges and the progress made by the federal government in the multifaceted fight against Al-Shabaab militants.
Prime Minister Hamza commended security agencies for their commitment and sacrifices in securing the security of the country, including the capital. He also acknowledged the vital role played by religious scholars in fighting the terrorist group in terms of ideology and extremism.
This event came in the wake increased attacks by Al-Shabaab targeting politicians and government officials, as well as targeting residential homes with mortar shells, killing dozens of civilians.
