Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud emphasized the transformative potential of Somalia’s agricultural sector during his speech at the International Conference on Agri-Value Chain Investment Tuesday.
The President highlighted the country's fertile land, strategic location, and untapped potential for crops like maize, sorghum, sesame, bananas, and mangoes.
He encouraged international investors to take part in Somalia's agricultural revolution, supported by the government's National Transformation Plan, which aims to improve infrastructure, promote private sector engagement, and foster innovation.
Additionally, Somalia's recent debt relief and full membership in the East African Community were noted as key steps towards regional trade and investment, with the agricultural sector set to benefit significantly from improved irrigation, modern farming techniques, and better market access through ports like Kismayo, Berbera, and Mogadishu.
The President assured potential investors of a supportive environment, reinforced by investment-friendly laws, security improvements, and access to finance, envisioning a future where Somalia leads in global agricultural exports.
