Somalia, 7 October 2025 — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has urged the business community to fund national research institutions, emphasizing that the private sector has a critical role to play in advancing education and innovation.
Speaking at the East African Community Summit 2025 in Mogadishu, President Mohamud asked Somali businesses to strengthen research efforts in same way support their enterprises.
“Businesspeople should dedicate a portion of their profits to support public research institutions that serve the wider community,” he said.
The president added that businesses should not focus solely on profit-making but also contribute to developing research and knowledge in Somalia through corporate social responsibility.
He said research institutions need sustainable funding to drive national progress, noting that stronger research capacity would boost productivity, innovation, and business growth, leading to broader economic and social development.
