MOGADISHU (Dawan Africa) – Somalia and Djibouti have once again reaffirmed their historic ties, agreeing to strengthen their strategic cooperation during a meeting held today at Villa Somalia, where President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, on his first official visit to Mogadishu.
Minister Omar conveyed greetings and a written message from Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, emphasizing Djibouti’s unwavering support for Somalia. The discussions highlighted the importance of the bilateral relationship, built on security cooperation and regional stability.
President Hassan Sheikh briefed the Minister on the overall situation in Somalia, particularly the government’s ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab and ISIS, according to a press release from Villa Somalia.
Both sides agreed to further consolidate their strategic partnership, especially in the areas of security, counter-terrorism, and regional diplomacy.
Djibouti continues to play a vital role in Somalia’s security as one of the troop-contributing countries to the African Union peacekeeping mission and as a strong advocate for Somalia in international forums. The visit is seen as a reaffirmation of Djibouti’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s state-building process.
