Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Premier Bank has announced the launch of “Tap2Pay – NFC Wearables,” a cutting-edge payment solution and the first of its kind in Somalia, marking only the second such launch on the African continent.
This innovative technology leverages Near Field Communication (NFC), allowing users to make secure, contactless payments via stylish wearables like eyeglasses, rings, wristbands, smartwatch straps, and phone cases.
"The Tap2Pay solution is a groundbreaking step in Somalia's financial sector, transforming payment methods and aligning with global technological advancements. We aim to enhance financial security and ease through everyday wearables", Gedi Jimale, CEO of Premier Bank said.
Key features of the Tap2Pay wearables include enhanced security, faster transactions, universal connectivity with global financial networks, and a hygienic, contactless approach—crucial in a post-COVID-19 world.
The technology allows users to tap their wearable device at any NFC-enabled payment terminal, ATM, or POS system, offering convenience and safety.
This launch aligns with Premier Bank’s vision of creating a cashless society in Somalia, driving financial inclusion and modernizing the banking sector. Following the recent introduction of the country’s first 24/7 ATM Cash Deposit service, Premier Bank continues to push technological boundaries and expand its services across the region.
