Police have confirmed that four people, including a four-year-old child, died while seven others were injured after a Nairobi-Moyale bound bus overturned at Kwa J area in Kieni East, Nyeri County.
The accident involved a Mabruk Classics bus that was travelling from Nairobi to Moyale when it reportedly suffered a tyre burst before rolling several times at around 10pm on Sunday.
Kieni East OCPD Maina Kabuthia said preliminary investigations pointed to a suspected front tyre burst as the cause of the crash.
“The bus was travelling from Nairobi to Moyale when it reportedly suffered a tyre burst before overturning several times,” Mr Kabuthia said.
The deceased comprised a four-year-old child and three adult men.
The injured passengers were rushed to hospital for treatment while the bodies of the victims were moved to the Naromoru Level 4 Hospital mortuary.
Police said investigations into the accident were ongoing.
Mr Kabuthia urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly during night travel.
“We are appealing to drivers to be extra careful, especially at night, and ensure their vehicles are in proper mechanical condition before starting long journeys,” he said.
The accident adds to the growing number of fatal road crashes reported across the country in recent months, with authorities repeatedly raising concern over speeding, vehicle defects and dangerous night travel.
