Eritrea, 21 December 2025 Eritrea’s Minister of Information, Yemane Gebremeskel, said peace forms the foundation of Eritrea’s engagement with its regional environment and its role in the Horn of Africa, describing it as a strategic choice shaped by the country’s long experience of liberation struggle and the costs of war.
In a post on X, the minister said Eritrea has maintained internal cohesion and stability despite widespread instability across the region, noting that the country has avoided involvement in proxy conflicts or the pursuit of external agendas. He said this approach has helped create a degree of regional stability and predictability.
Gebremeskel added that Eritrea does not seek to present itself as a regional gatekeeper, stressing that geography alone has placed the country at the entrance to the Horn of Africa. What Eritrea offers, he said, is “responsible access grounded in peace, supported by self-reliance, and safeguarded by principled diplomacy.”
