Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s Federal Parliament remains closed despite the official end of its recess more than two weeks ago, raising questions over the reasons behind the prolonged delay.
A joint statement issued by the Speakers of both Houses in June announced that the sixth session of the 11th Parliament would adjourn on June 22 and reconvene on August 22, 2025. However, fifteen extra days have now passed without Parliament resuming its regular sittings.
So far, no official explanation has been provided by the leadership of the House of the People on why the extended recess continues.
This comes at a time when Parliament is expected to deliberate on crucial laws and agreements related to the electoral process, as well as the four chapters of the Constitution that are under review for amendment and completion through an agreement reached between members of the National Salvation Forum and Villa Somalia.
