Mogadishu, Somalia — More than 1,000 young Somalis sat a recruitment examination organised by BECO. The examination was opened by Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, BECO officials and BTI Institute representatives.
The applicants are competing for collector positions with BECO, responsible for collecting electricity bill payments. The exam is designed to select candidates with the required skills and qualifications.
Officials encouraged Somali youth to make use of available employment opportunities, while stressing the importance of developing professional skills and creating sustainable jobs.
Mohamed Abukar Hussein, Head of BECO’s Human Resources Office, said the company’s recruitment process is based on an open examination and competitive system, allowing applicants to submit their applications freely.
“BECO’s recruitment process is based on an examination system, and applicants are free to submit their applications,” said Hussein.

The BECO recruitment examination was launched in 2017, with more than 850 applicants taking part in the examination in 2024.
According to the company, more than 200 young people are recruited by BECO each year after successfully passing the required assessment and recruitment examination stages.
The latest examination comes as Somalia continues to face high unemployment, particularly among young people. Many young Somalis have graduated from universities across the country but continue to search for employment opportunities.
BECO is an energy company established in 2014 and operates part of the electricity transmission and distribution systems in South Central Somalia.
