[Cadaado, Galmudug, Somalia] – More than 100 internally displaced families have received permanent homes in Cadaado, following the official inauguration of the Har-wanaag neighborhood by the Galmudug State Government on Monday. The initiative is part of a broader effort to provide durable solutions for vulnerable populations across the region.
Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor Qoor) led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, where 117 families were handed legal ownership documents to their new homes. The housing project was completed in under a year through a partnership between the Galmudug administration, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
“This project has been a success, and we are committed to expanding it to other parts of Galmudug,” said President Qoor Qoor. He emphasized that the initiative reflects the state’s long-term strategy for resettling displaced people through sustainable development.
The Har-wanaag neighborhood will also include public services such as schools, mosques, and solar-powered electricity to ensure a dignified standard of living. President Qoor Qoor urged the new residents to protect the infrastructure and play an active role in rebuilding their communities.
The project marks a significant step toward ending protracted displacement in Somalia and highlights Galmudug’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable solutions.
