Kenya, 22 April 2026 - OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Images 2.0, a new image generation model that is set to improve how users create and interact with visual content on ChatGPT.
In a statement on Tuesday, the tech company said that the new model is already available to all ChatGPT, Codex, and the API.
A key highlight of the new model is its ability to access real-time information from the web, verify its outputs for accuracy, and generate multiple variations from a single prompt when paired with ChatGPT’s thinking model.
“A year ago, we released ChatGPT images, showing that images created by AI can be both beautiful and useful. Chat GPT 2.0 is the next step: a state-of-the-art model that can take on complex visual tasks and produce precise and immediately usable visuals,” OpenAI said.
The new model has updated knowledge until December 2025, a factor that allows it to handle tasks end-to-end, from copywriting to analysis to design composition.
ChatGPT Images 2.0 also supports aspect ratios as wide as 3:1 and as tall as 1:3, making it ideal for creating wide banners and presentation slides, posters, and social graphics.
The company has said that the Images with thinking are available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business users, and are expected to be rolled out to enterprise users soon.
Mobile users have been encouraged to update their ChatGPT app to the latest version to access the features.
“Images 2.0 brings an unprecedented level of specificity and fidelity to image creation. It can not only conceptualize more sophisticated images, but it can also bring that vision to life effectively,” the company said.
The launch of ChatGPT Images 2.0 comes at a time when the global tech industry is racing to develop more powerful and advanced image generation tools.
ChatGPT Images 2.0 is now set to go head-to-head with other image-generating systems such as Midjourney, DALL·E 3, Stable Diffusion, and Google Gemini, among others.
