Kenya, 21 April 2026 - Ookla has announced a partnership with Microsoft that will see its widely used Speedtest directly integrated into Microsoft’s key platforms.
In a statement, Ookla, a tech company focused on network intelligence and connectivity insights, said that the speedtest is being powered by Ookla’s speedtest Web SDK and will be integrated into platforms, including Windows 11 and Bing.
The integration will allow users to assess their internet speed without the need to leave the platforms that they are already on, according to the company.
Once live, all users will need to launch an internet speed test on Windows by right-clicking the network icon or accessing Wi-Fi and cellular settings.
“Historically, diagnosing a slow connection meant manually opening a browser, navigating to a testing site, and running a secondary tool,” Ookla said.
“Now, by embedding the testing launchpad within the OS, Microsoft and Ookla are empowering users to understand their network performance seamlessly,” it added.
In addition to a faster launch speed test, all Microsoft users shall experience reduced friction in troubleshooting connections.
This is mainly going to benefit both everyday consumers and enterprise users by allowing them to validate network performance without interrupting their workflow.
The integrated Speedtest is currently only available for Windows Insiders Release Preview channel and will be rolled out to other eligible Windows users gradually.
“Rely on Ookla’s established backend network to provide highly accurate, real-world throughput and latency metrics directly through Microsoft interfaces,” Ookla stated.
Since its introduction in 2006, Speedtest, a web-based tool designed to help users measure their internet speed, latency, and overall network performance, has grown into one of the most widely used internet diagnostics platforms globally.
The tool is available across a wide range of devices and platforms, including web browsers on desktops and laptops, and mobile apps on Android and iOS smartphones. It is also supported on other platforms, like smart TVs and browser extensions.
