Kenya, 4 July 2026 - The National Police Service (NPS) has vowed to relentlessly pursue perpetrators of political violence after the attack on a political convoy in Keumbu, Kisii County, warning that acts of intolerance will be met with the full force of the law.
In a statement issued on Saturday, National Police Service Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said investigators had already arrested three suspects over Friday's attack on the Kisii-Keroka road and launched an expanded investigation aimed at bringing all those involved to justice.
"The National Police Service strongly condemns the events depicted. Political intolerance, in whatever form, is unacceptable and will be rigorously pursued through the criminal justice system," Nyaga said.
According to the police, a detailed review of the viral video circulating on mainstream and social media established that the incident occurred on Friday, July 3, along the Kisii-Keroka road and targeted a political group that had visited the area.
Nyaga said officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kisii Central, working together with Keumbu Police Station, moved swiftly after the incident, leading to the arrest of three suspects who remain in custody.
He disclosed that detectives are conducting a more detailed forensic analysis of the footage alongside wider investigations to identify and arrest other suspects.
"A more detailed analysis of the video, alongside wider investigative efforts, is underway with a view to making further arrests," Nyaga said.
In a further indication of the seriousness with which the police are treating the incident, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to urgently examine the circumstances surrounding the violence, including whether there were operational shortcomings by officers on the ground.

"The Inspector General of the National Police Service has directed the Internal Affairs Unit to expedite its assessment of all aspects of the violence, identify any operational gaps that may have contributed to the incident, and take appropriate action," Nyaga said, adding that IAU officers are already deployed in the affected area.
The police also appealed to members of the public to support the investigations by volunteering information that could lead to additional arrests.
"The NPS further appeals for the public's continued support and encourages anyone with information relating to this incident to share it patriotically with the nearest police station or through the toll-free reporting channels," Nyaga said.
Nyaga reiterated that the National Police Service remains committed to protecting all Kenyans regardless of their political affiliation and ensuring that those behind the attack are held accountable.
"As a Service, we remain committed to protecting the public, investigating all cases to their logical conclusion, and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice," he said.
