Lasanod (Dawan Africa) – The leader of the emerging North Eastern State of Somalia, Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw Ali, has officially signed the region’s new constitution into law during a ceremony held Saturday night in Lasanod.
The enactment was formalized through a Presidential Decree, citing Article 152 of the newly drafted constitution. According to a statement from the Office of the President of North Eastern Somalia, the legal framework is now fully in effect.
“The President, in accordance with Article 152, has officially enacted the Constitution of the State. As of today, the constitution is law,” the statement read.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Federal Government of Somalia, including the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh.
“Tonight, we officially enacted the Constitution of the North Eastern State of Somalia,” said Minister Hosh, noting that the next phase will involve the formation of a regional parliament and preparations for presidential and vice-presidential elections.
The constitution was finalized following an eight-day conference in Lasanod, bringing together delegates from the regions of Sool, Sanaag, and Buuhoodle, who agreed on the legal foundations of the new state.
