Laascaanood (Dawan Africa) – The President of the North East State of Somalia, Abdiqadir Ahmed Aw Cali, officially launched the voter registration process for the upcoming one-person, one-vote elections in Laascaanood on Tuesday night.
In his speech, President Aw Cali highlighted the region's full readiness for elections at the national, state, and local levels. He further emphasized the strong efforts being made to ensure active citizen participation in the electoral process.
“Our people must engage in the election, organize themselves, and register in large numbers,” President Aw Cali stated. “We must work closely with regional administrations, and I am confident that the people of North East State will play a significant role in the national elections.”
Ali Yusuf Ali-Xoosh, Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, also addressed the event, underscoring that elections are a constitutional right. “Elections are a constitutional right enshrined in both the Provisional Federal Constitution of Somalia and the North East State Constitution,” he said.
The announcement of the voter registration launch comes as the National Election Commission declared that the registration process would officially begin in Laascaanood today, Wednesday, marking a significant step in preparations for the upcoming elections.
North East State becomes the Forth federal member state to begin voter registration, following Banadir, Hirshabelle, Galmudug, and South West State, which had already initiated the process.
