MOGADISHU, September 25, 2026 – Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) says 12 Al-Shabaab members were killed in a planned operation carried out with international partners in Bur Saruur village, Middle Shabelle region.
In a statement, NISA said the operation targeted a site where members of the group had gathered. The agency said military equipment and locations used for shelter were also destroyed, and that it was pursuing members who fled the area.
Bur Saruur is approximately two kilometres southeast of Ali Gaduud. NISA did not say when the operation took place or what weapons were used.

Middle Shabelle has been the site of earlier operations in which the Somali government reported Al-Shabaab casualties. In June 2026, NISA said 23 members of the group were killed in an operation about three kilometres south of Masajid Ali Gaduud.
The casualty figures for the Bur Saruur operation and the earlier ones are based on government statements. Dawan Media has not independently verified them.
