MOGADISHU, 9 October 2026 Somalia’s National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) will represent the country at the East African Community (EAC) Regional Quality Awards, scheduled for November 2, 2026, in Kigali, Rwanda.
NIRA qualified for the regional competition after winning the award for best service-delivery institution among government agencies at Somalia’s 2026 National Quality Awards.
NIRA Director General Abdiwali Ali Abdullahi said the achievement reflected the authority’s efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of national identification services.
“This demonstrates the efforts the authority has made to improve the quality of national identification services,” he said.
NIRA Deputy Director General Abdirahman Said Ahmed received the national award at the ceremony.

The authority said the recognition reflected its commitment to providing efficient, transparent, reliable and accessible national identification services to all citizens on an equal basis.
NIRA’s leadership also thanked staff for their contributions to improving service quality and acknowledged the Somali Bureau of Standards (SOBS) for the recognition.
The authority said the award would encourage further efforts to improve service delivery and strengthen public confidence.
NIRA’s participation in the regional awards will give it an opportunity to present Somalia’s progress in national identification services to a wider East African audience.
