Las'anod (Dawan Africa) – The Verification and Approval Committee has officially announced the list of members of the new Parliament of the North East State of Somalia, consisting of 83 legislators who will serve a five-year term from 2025 to 2030.
The official list, unveiled on Sunday in Las'anod, includes representatives drawn from Togdher (16 seats), Sanag (37 seats), and Sool (30 seats). According to the committee, more than 700 candidates registered for the contest, but only 83 were approved after a rigorous vetting process that examined age, education, and integrity.
In its statement, the committee said:
“After reviewing applications, hearing from parties, and carefully analyzing the submitted evidence, the committee decided that the attached members met all the requirements and are hereby recognized as the official members of the House of Representatives of the North East State of Somalia for the period 2025–2030.”
The announcement of the new parliament also opens the door for subsequent elections, including those for the Speaker of Parliament, deputies, and the President of the state, all of which are expected to take place soon in Las'anod.
Once the inaugural session of the new parliament is held and leadership positions elected, administrative authority will formally transition into the hands of the new state parliament, marking the end of interim oversight previously held by the Federal Government of Somalia.
