Jowhar (Dawan Africa) – The National Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (NIEBC) officially launched voter registration in Hirshabelle State today as part of the broader one-person, one-vote electoral process across Somalia.
The opening ceremony, held in Jowhar, the capital of Hirshabelle, saw the participation of Hirshabelle President Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Ali Guudlaawe), who became the first individual to register. During the event, President Guudlaawe underscored the significance of citizen involvement in Somalia's democratic transition.
“The people of Hirshabelle now have the best opportunity,” said President Guudlaawe. “I am proud to stand here today and exercise my civic right.”
The registration center launched in Jowhar is the first to open within Hirshabelle State. This marks the fourth city in Somalia where voter registration has been initiated, following previous launches in Baydhabo, Dhuusamareeb, and Mogadishu.
