Kenya 19 May 2026 - The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Nairobi’s Central Police Station, Chief Inspector Dishen Angoya, was on Tuesday rushed to hospital after reportedly developing high blood pressure hours after his dramatic arrest over the release of 64 suspects linked to the chaotic fuel protests.
Reports reaching the media indicate that Angoya, who had been detained at Lang’ata Police Station overnight, was taken to an undisclosed hospital on Tuesday morning after complaining of deteriorating health while in custody.
The senior police officer was arrested shortly after midnight by senior commanders over claims that he unlawfully freed dozens of protesters who had been arrested during Monday’s demonstrations and were expected to be arraigned in court.
According to an internal police signal seen by the media, Angoya is accused of abuse of office for allegedly authorising the release of the suspects without lawful authority.
“Chief Inspector Dishen Angoya, the OCS Central Police Station, Nairobi Region, was arrested by the Deputy Regional Police Commander for the offence of abuse of office,” read part of the signal.
The signal further alleged that the officer “without lawful authority and improperly conferring on himself a benefit, released sixty-four prisoners who had been arrested for offences relating to public order.”
Police said the suspects had been detained following unrest witnessed during protests sparked by rising fuel prices and the high cost of living.
The arrest of the OCS has triggered fresh scrutiny within security circles, with questions emerging over whether the release of the suspects was procedural or politically influenced amid heightened tensions surrounding the demonstrations.

By Tuesday morning, Angoya remained under police guard as investigations into the incident intensified.
Transport sector operators on Monday boycotted duties in protest of hiked fuel prices.
At least four people were reported dead during the protests, with the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen saying that they were infiltrated by goons allegedly hired by a section of political leaders to advance cheap political scores.
