Kenya, October 8, 2026 - Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday held a high-level meeting with senior security officials led by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to review ongoing security reforms and chart ways of accelerating their implementation.
The discussions centred on the legal and institutional framework needed to operationalise County Policing Authorities. Officials agreed on the importance of a coordinated approach involving all relevant institutions to ensure smooth rollout.
Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening public participation in security matters, entrenching accountability and deepening community policing — all within the confines of the Constitution.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary also received an update on the National Police Service Reserve Policy. The policy is expected to provide a clear and strengthened framework for the management, coordination and deployment of National Police Reservists across the country.
