Somalia, 5 May 2026 More than 400,000 people are expected to vote in South West State local elections, the electoral commission said Monday.
The commission announced that voting will take place at 74 polling stations across 13 districts in the regional state.
Commission chairman Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan said the expected turnout reflects growing public participation in Somalia’s electoral process.

He also confirmed that the final batch of election materials was transported from Mogadishu to South West State to support the voting process.
The elections are scheduled to begin on May 10, with residents expected to head to polling stations to elect council and assembly representatives.
