MOGADISHU, 4 October 2026 – Mogadishu will host its first Som Souk Expo trade fair from 11 to 13 October in Tarabuunka, Hodan district, with more than 200 businesses already registered and free entry for the public.
The three-day fair will bring together businesses, customers, investors and young people with business ideas, with registration still open.
Organisers said it is open to businesses of all kinds.
"Som Souk Expo is a trade fair open to all types of businesses, whether restaurants, clothing sellers, large companies, as well as banks and universities," said Asho Mohamed Nur, head of sales at Som Souk Expo.
Organisers said the fair is not meant to be a one-day sale but an opportunity for businesses to build lasting relationships with customers.
"The biggest and most important benefit for businesses joining us at Som Souk Expo is that every business gains visibility," Asho said. "It showcases its products or the services it offers there, so that people recognise and learn what it sells and what its business is."
More from Somalia
Asho said special discounts have been prepared for attendees. The fair will also feature traditional performances and cultural heritage displays and will mark Somalia's Flag Day on 12 October at the venue.
Among participants is delivery services company Somtana. Head of production Su’ad Osman Abdi said the company will use the fair to showcase its services and products.
"I chose Som Souk Expo because it is the first trade fair to take place in the country. It is also a place where many people will come together, which makes it easier for me to meet my customers and find new ones," Su’ad said.
The fair will include a dedicated section for young people with business ideas but lacking capital, who will pitch to investors ready to fund them. Panel discussions on developing Somalia's business sector and economy will also be held.
Som Souk Expo comes as Mogadishu's business community continues to rebuild after recent years.
