MOGADISHU (Dawan) September 6, 2026 The management of Mogadishu Port issued new regulations on Saturday governing cargo trucks operating inside the port following a series of accidents that resulted in deaths and injuries.
The 16-point directive, issued by the Director General of Mogadishu Port, Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Ameriko), aims to strengthen safety standards and improve traffic management within the port.
Under the new rules, cargo trucks operating inside the port must maintain speeds between 10 and 20 kilometres per hour to reduce risks and improve safety.
Drivers have also been instructed to ensure that their vehicles are in proper mechanical condition, particularly checking essential safety components such as brakes, lights and other equipment before entering port operations.
The regulations prohibit people from sleeping underneath vehicles inside the port and restrict unnecessary use of horns, sirens and other sounds that could disrupt operations.

The port administration has also ordered some vehicles to undergo maintenance and repairs to ensure they meet required safety standards.
The new measures follow several accidents involving cargo trucks inside Mogadishu Port that resulted in loss of lives and property damage.
The Banadir Regional Administration had previously introduced measures aimed at limiting the speed of cargo trucks operating at the port following repeated accidents involving heavy vehicles.
The latest regulations are part of efforts to reduce accidents and improve safety conditions for workers, drivers and other people inside Mogadishu Port.
