MOGADISHU, 19 October 2026 — Lessons from Banadir's local elections could inform Somalia's national polls, participants said at a discussion hosted in Mogadishu on Monday.
Organised by the Banadir Regional Heritage and Culture Research Organisation, the event examined how local government elections can help lay the groundwork for national polls, with a focus on citizen participation and good governance.
The organisation's chairman, Abdullahi Sheikh Nur, said the aim was to review previous electoral experiences and identify lessons for future elections.

"The purpose of this discussion is to assess what happened so we can learn from it," he said.
The discussion comes as Somalia holds one-person one-vote elections, giving added significance to reviewing local electoral experiences and the lessons they may offer for national polls.
