MOGADISHU, 13 October 2026 The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungab, has warned opposition politicians that the government will not compromise on security in the capital and will respond to any action it considers a threat to public safety.
Speaking at the Som Suq Expo trade exhibition, on Tuesday, Muungab said opposition politicians were free to express their political views but that actions he described as undermining the city’s security would not be tolerated.
“If you move one finger against security, two fingers will be moved against you. The government will not negotiate over security,” Muungab said.
The mayor also addressed claims he said some politicians had made about their personal security, particularly allegations that they were being targeted for assassination or attack.
“Who has seen a politician being attacked at his home?” he asked, adding that politicians could remain in their homes and continue their political activities.

He said the Banadir regional administration was committed to strengthening security around the clock, adding that it was operating under the guidance and directives of Somalia’s president.
Separately, Muungab announced during the Som Suq Expo that the Banadir administration had extended the exhibition by three additional days, bringing its total duration to six days.
