Kenya, August 25, 2026 - The Ministry of ICT is considering partnerships with stakeholders in the private sector to install public Wi-Fi networks as part of broader efforts to expand access to affordable and reliable internet across the country.
State Department of ICT PS John Kipchumba said that the ministry has already explored potential collaboration on public wifi during a meeting with Liquid Intelligent Technologies Vice President and CEO Neeraj Pradhan alongside the company’s leadership team
The discussions focused on how strategic partnerships can accelerate the country's digital transformation by ensuring that the internet is easily accessible in public spaces and also in underserved communities.
“Strengthening Partnerships for Kenya’s Digital Transformation: Great meeting today with the leadership team from Liquid Intelligent Technologies, led by Mr. Neeraj Pradhan, VP & CEO. We had an insightful discussion on how strategic partnerships can unlock greater opportunities for digital transformation and regional growth,” the PS stated.
“We discussed opportunities to accelerate broadband connectivity across the country and expand access to reliable, affordable internet. We also explored potential collaboration on public Wi-Fi to make internet access easier and more accessible to many Kenyans, particularly in public spaces and underserved communities,” he said.
Kipchumba asserted that ensuring strong and reliable internet across the country will drive innovation and build robust digital infrastructure that empowers businesses, communities and citizens to participate fully in the digital economy.
The engagement comes as the government seeks to strengthen Kenya’s digital economy by expanding access to technology skills and creating more opportunities for young people to participate in the digital economy.
Just a day ago, the PS also held discussions with US officials and representatives from Stanford University on opportunities to equip young people with digital skills.
The discussions focused on developing a strategic partnership around youth skilling, digital capacity building and the creation of sustainable employment opportunities for young people.
“Today, we had a highly productive meeting at the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, hosting Ambassador Dr. Jendayi Frazer, the Peter J. and Frances Duignan Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, alongside her delegation,” the PS stated.
