Kenya, 4 July 2026 - Three suspects have been arrested and two firearms recovered following an intelligence-led operation conducted by detectives in Kuria West Sub-County, Migori County.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the operation was carried out in Nyangoto after detectives acted on credible intelligence about suspected criminal activities in the area.
According to the DCI, detectives from Migori, assisted by officers from Kuria West, raided the suspects' hideout and recovered two pistols and five rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Police also seized a Subaru Impreza motor vehicle, three motorcycles,three welding machines,two grinding machines ,a water pump, power cables,and eight assorted mobile phones,all of which are being held as exhibits to aid investigations.
The three suspects were identified as Charles Mwita, Joshua Obachi and Ignitius Likhanga. They remain in police custody as detectives complete investigations and prepare to arraign them in court.
The DCI did not immediately indicate whether the recovered firearms had been used in the commission of any crimes or whether the suspects are linked to a wider criminal network, saying investigations are ongoing.
The agency commended members of the public for providing timely information that led to the successful operation, reiterating the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.
The recovery comes amid sustained efforts by security agencies to crack down on illegal firearms and organised criminal activities in parts of Migori County and the wider South Nyanza region.
Police urged members of the public to continue sharing information on suspected criminal activities, assuring them that all reports would be handled confidentially to support efforts aimed at enhancing public safety.
