Kenya, 10 June 2026 - The Mandera County Government has officially received Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officials and the contractor for the construction of the proposed 10,000-seater Mandera Stadium, marking a key success in the long-awaited sports infrastructure project.
The project, which was pledged by President William Ruto during his NYOTA Programme visit, is expected to significantly boost sports development and youth engagement in the region.
The project once started will include a 10,000-seater stadium, VIP section, modern changing rooms, a football pitch, running track, cabro-paved parking area, a borehole, and a canopy covering the stadium.
The County Government led by County Secretary Billow Issack and County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Development Mohamed Omar officially handed over the Mandera Stadium on Wednesday to the Ministry of Defence as construction works are yet to commence as the contractor finalises mobilisation.
Speaking during the handover, County Secretary Billow Issack said the county government is committed to ensuring smooth implementation of the project in collaboration with national agencies.
"This is a very important project for the people of Mandera. As a county government, we will work closely with the national government, the Kenya Defence Forces, and the contractor to ensure the successful and timely completion of this stadium," said Issack.
