U.K, June 03, 2026 - Manchester United have taken a significant step in their summer rebuild after reaching an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Éderson in a deal worth up to €45 million.
According to reports from multiple reliable outlets, including The Athletic, United will pay a fixed fee of €40.5 million (£35 million), with a further €4.5 million (£3.8 million) available through performance-related bonuses. Personal terms have already been agreed, with the 26-year-old set to sign a four-year contract running until June 2030, alongside an option for an additional year. The move is now subject to a medical examination, with all parties targeting an early July completion date.
The transfer represents the first major signing of the Michael Carrick era and signals the beginning of a broader midfield overhaul at Old Trafford. Following the departure of Casemiro and uncertainty surrounding other midfield options, strengthening the center of the pitch became one of United's top priorities heading into the new season.
Éderson arrives after establishing himself as one of Serie A's most consistent midfielders. Since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022, he has made 180 appearances for the Bergamo club, scoring 16 goals and contributing six assists. During the 2025/26 campaign, he featured in 41 matches across all competitions, helping Atalanta remain competitive domestically and in Europe.
What makes the Brazilian particularly attractive to Manchester United is his versatility. Primarily a defensive midfielder, Éderson is also capable of operating as a box-to-box player. His energy, ball-winning ability, pressing intensity, and tactical discipline have earned widespread praise in Italy, where he developed a reputation as one of the league's most reliable midfield operators.

Despite securing Éderson, United's midfield recruitment may not be finished. Reports indicate the club continues to monitor additional targets, including players such as Aurélien Tchouaméni, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson as they seek to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup next season.
