Liverpool kept pushing and capitalised on a Brentford red card when Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off in the 45+8 minute for fouling Liverpool defender Jérémy Jacquet in the buildup before the visitors could take a corner kick. They would later utilise the vulnerability of the opponents to turn the match around in the second half.
Earlier in the first half, the centre referee consulted VAR to deny Liverpool a penalty. The review revealed that, even though Alexis Mac Allister went down inside the penalty area after a sliding challenge from Brentford attacker Dango Ouattara, the latter reached the ball first.
Their comeback started with an equaliser from Víctor Muñoz in the 62nd minute, before Alexander Isak completed the turnaround in the 70th minute to secure all three points for the Reds.
