Addis Ababa (Dawan) — Major roads leading to Meskel Square are being closed to traffic today due to a public rally taking place in central Addis Ababa, according to the city’s police.
The road closures will begin at 5:00 a.m. and remain in effect until the rally concludes. Police said the restrictions are intended to ensure public safety and the orderly conduct of the gathering.
The rally is being held to protest the recruitment of children, forced military mobilization and violence in the Tigray region. The Tigray Peace and Change Council, which organized the demonstration, said the event aims to draw the attention of the federal government and the international community to the situation in the region and call for measures to end the crisis.
