Somalia, 6 October 2025 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s one-day visit to Kismayo for talks with Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam ‘Madobe’ has concluded without a formal agreement.
While Villa Somalia described the discussions as constructive, no specific outcomes were reached.
A statement from Villa Somalia, the presidential palace in Mogadishu, noted that the discussions focused on key national issues and that both sides agreed to continue their consultations. "The meeting today concluded with both sides agreeing to continue their dialogue, aiming to further advance cooperation," the statement read.
Despite the lack of an immediate breakthrough, the statement highlighted the commitment of both leaders to the dialogue process. "President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Jubaland administration and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation for the benefit of the Somali people," the statement said.
President Mohamud’s visit is part of ongoing efforts to resolve differences between the Federal Government and Jubaland, particularly in the areas of governance, security, and resource sharing. The Federal Government and Jubaland have been at odds over these issues for some time, but both sides remain open to dialogue.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of both parties' commitment to national unity and peace.
