Mogadishu, 29 August 2026 - Farmers from Lower Shabelle have complained to the federal government about Al-Shabaab harassment and damage caused by recent military operations, officials said.
The farmers raised their concerns in a meeting with Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareeye, State Minister for Defence Omar Ali Abdi and Army Ground Forces Commander Brig. Gen. Sahal Abdullahi Omar.
They said Al-Shabaab continues to disrupt farming communities and that recent government operations had damaged property and agricultural production.

Officials said they would document the complaints and refer them to relevant authorities for investigation, stressing the need to protect civilians and property during operations.
The meeting comes as government forces continue operations against Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle.
