MOGADISHU, September 24, 2026 - Large-capacity washing machines that can handle up to 15 kilograms of laundry in a single cycle have been introduced in Mogadishu for hospitals, hotels, apartment buildings and other high-volume facilities.
The machines are intended to provide a solution for facilities that need to wash large quantities of clothes within a shorter period.
"You may see a hospital with hundreds of people inside still using a small washing machine that is not sufficient for its needs. That is why we launched this programme so that they can benefit from it," said Hassan Hussein Ali, Head of Marketing at National Electronics, which represents LG in Somalia
The initiative comes as the number of facilities serving large numbers of people in Mogadishu continues to grow, including hospitals, hotels and apartment buildings. This has increased the need for equipment capable of handling larger volumes of laundry.
Experts from LG have also arrived in Mogadishu to provide training to laundry businesses and other potential users on how to operate the machines.

National Electronics said the programme is part of the company's services in the country. LG has been operating in the Somali market for about ten years.
However, washing machines are still not widely used across Somali society. Many families and individuals continue to wash clothes by hand, while some larger facilities sometimes rely on equipment that may not be designed to handle the volume of laundry they generate.
