Kenya , October 8, 2026 - President William Ruto on Thursday confirmed that Kenya will host the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally in 2027, declaring that the historic event “stays home.”
In a statement addressed to Kenyans, the President said the world’s top drivers will once again battle it out on the country’s plains, valleys and the legendary roads of Naivasha.
“The Safari was born on Kenyan soil. It belongs on Kenyan soil,” Ruto said. He noted that every edition of the rally boosts hotel occupancy, energises local businesses and showcases Kenya’s natural beauty to global audiences.
The President thanked the Ministry of Sports, the WRC Safari Rally Project, private-sector partners, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the WRC Promoter for securing the event.
The confirmation comes as the Motorsport Kenya Federation (MK-F) continues to work closely with the government to strengthen the broader motorsport ecosystem. On 6 October 2026, MK-F held a high-level meeting with Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya and Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi at Talanta Plaza, Nairobi.

Representing the Federation were Vice President and WRC CEO Carl Tundo, Secretary General Eric Bengi, and Motorsports Council Chairman Mindo Gatimu. Discussions focused on the future of motorsport in Kenya, preparations for the upcoming WRC Safari Rally, and the revival of national motorsport. Emphasis was placed on grassroots development, youth participation, strengthening the national championship structure, and maintaining Kenya’s position as Africa’s leading motorsport destination.
The 2027 Safari Rally will mark a new chapter, with the private sector expected to fully fund, manage and promote the event following President Ruto’s earlier calls for reduced government spending and greater corporate involvement.
