Germany, 24 July 2026 - Germany have officially appointed former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp as the new head coach of the men's national team, ending weeks of speculation and welcoming a new chapter for one of international football's most successful nations.
The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed Klopp's appointment, with the 59-year-old signing a contract that runs until the end of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. He replaces Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down following Germany's shock elimination in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This appointment marks a return to the dugout for Klopp after nearly two years away from day-to-day coaching and his first-ever role as a national team manager.

Following Germany's disappointing World Cup campaign, the DFB quickly identified Klopp as its preferred candidate.
Initial talks between DFB president Bernd Neuendorf, vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke and Klopp took place in New York during the World Cup. Those discussions resulted in an agreement on the key terms of a contract, although negotiations also required cooperation from Red Bull, Klopp's employer at the time.
The DFB later reached an agreement with Red Bull that allowed Klopp to leave his executive role. Rather than paying compensation, the federation will make a €1 million donation to Red Bull's Wings for Life Foundation, while Leipzig will host three future Germany internationals.
Speaking at his official unveiling in Frankfurt, Klopp expressed his excitement about leading his country.
He described becoming Germany coach as a tremendous honour and thanked everyone involved in making the appointment possible.
Klopp said he has "great respect" for the position and is eager to begin building a team capable of competing for major honours once again.
