Somalia, 14 May 2026 – The ruling Justice and Solidarity party won a majority in the South West State assembly, securing 51 of the 95 contested seats.
JSP garnered 67,970 votes, equivalent to 53 percent of the valid votes cast.
The National Progress and Unity Party was second, winning 14 seats with 18,667 votes.
Karaama won 11 seats garnering 14,708 votes, while Silcad secured six seats with 7,247 votes. Towfiiq won four seats, with 5,842 votes.

Other parties that won seats include Justice and Solidarity Tiir, which secured three seats, while Waaberi, Marsan, Somali Citizens, Saab, Youth for National Consultation and Ramaas each won one seat.
A total of 32 political parties participated in the election held in 13 districts.
According to the announced figures, 132,430 voters cast their ballots. Of these, 128,276 votes were declared valid, representing 97 percent of the total votes cast, while 4,154 votes were rejected, representing 3 percent.
