Somalia, 14 October 2025 — Puntland security forces have killed several Islamic State (ISIS) fighters during a counter-terrorism operation in Il-Abal area.
According to Puntland authorities, the operation is part of the ongoing offensive in the Al-Miskaad Mountain and resulted in the capture of two others.
An official statement posted on the Facebook page of the Puntland Counter-Terrorism Operation confirmed that several ISIS members were killed, although the exact number of casualties was not disclosed. Among those captured were one Somali national and one foreign fighter. The operation commenced early Monday morning.
Puntland has recently intensified its military campaign against ISIS elements hiding in the Al-Miskaad mountain range in the Bari region, emphasizing its goal of eliminating the group from its territories.
Security forces, supported by intelligence agencies, have stepped up operations targeting ISIS bases and supply routes to prevent the militants from regrouping or receiving logistical support.
